I was refused entry to an event - what can I do?

The organiser has final say on admission; refund eligibility depends on the reason, and the booking fee is non-refundable.

Being refused entry is frustrating. Here's what your rights are and what steps to take.

The organiser has final say on admission

The event organiser and their venue staff have the absolute right to refuse entry. This is standard across all live events and is covered in our Customer Terms. BLOCO cannot override an organiser's admission decision and is not liable for refusal of entry. Common reasons for refusal include:

  • Failure to produce a valid ticket or ID where required
  • Arriving after last entry time
  • Breaching the event's dress code or age policy
  • Behaviour that the organiser considers a risk to other attendees
  • A ticket that has already been scanned

If you believe your ticket is valid

  1. 1Ask to speak to a manager or the event organiser directly - not just the door staff.
  2. 2Show your ticket in your BLOCO account - not just a screenshot - to prove it's genuine and unscanned.
  3. 3Ask them to manually check your booking reference in their system.

Being calm and polite at this point gives you the best chance of a resolution. Arguing with door staff rarely helps.

Are you entitled to a refund if refused entry?

  • If refused due to a venue or organiser error - contact the organiser to request a refund. BLOCO will process it if the organiser authorises one, minus the non-refundable booking fee.
  • If refused for breach of event rules (dress code, behaviour, age, last entry) - you are generally not entitled to a refund. The organiser's terms govern this.
  • BLOCO's booking fee is non-refundable in all circumstances.

Making a complaint

If you feel the refusal was unjustified and the organiser is not responding or resolving it, raise a concern through your BLOCO account. Include the event name, date, your booking reference, and a description of what happened. We’ll raise it with the organiser on your behalf, though we cannot compel them to admit you or issue a refund.
